Coolly Chiller and Ice Bath

I use this chiller for my Ice Barrel 300 insulated cold plunge tub. It works WONDERFULLY and only runs 2-3 hrs in a 24-hr period. I'm sure when winter comes it will run even less. If you have a tub that is not well insulated, of course it will run more.This chiller also costs only a fraction of those made specifically for cold plunge tubs. Able to keep my 100 gal cold plung at 55 degrees all day outside in Florida summer (under covered porch). Actually got it down to 48 without much problem! Unit is very quiet, chills quickly for it's size, attachments seem to fit well and do not leak.CONS (all very minor, just fyi stuff I wish i had known)- Unit is slightly different than pictures (hose locations, side power switch)- To turn off need to hold down for 6 seconds. Would like to have the power switch on top instead of way down on side.- Boost function doesn't seem to cool any quicker.- Hose attachments are cheap plastic, seems these would fail before mechanics but we'll see.

It was easy to install and perfect fit for my cold plunge. Kept putting it off and used large blocks of ice and bottles, but when the temps went up it just wasn't working. So finally took the plunge and purchased this. It's really nice not having to make ice and still not getting it cold enough during the heat. Even though insulated, the tub needed this.Do open up the front and make sure the cover that holds the capacitor is secure in place, they don't put a screw in it. Mine was snapped into place after dealing with shipping. Also (without plugged in, duh) check the fan spins freely after shipping. I didn't have any problem. Also might have to snug the nuts down to the inlet and outlet, mine were loose.DId have a small white particle problem and like a little oily like substance on the water surface when started it running after a day. This might have been the new spa hose from Menards or the Chiller. Not sure, but drained and cleaned and hasn't come back.Otherwise, great knowing I can use it when want and not having to deal with ice. Would never be able to get it this cold with ice until late fall or winter. Shouldn't have waited this long to get this unit.

Just arrived. A little scuffed up out of the box from the factory, but I'm not mad. Appears to have been tested as other buyers stated. Front cover off a little. Opened the front cover and the back cover to inspect everything. All the internals are in mint condition. Letting sit upright overnight instead of the 3hrs suggested. Will test out tomorrow and update my review.9/27/29Tested in a small 8 gallon res, initial 85 degree water and with 2 submersible pumps and an air stone pushing in ambient air temps (75 degrees) into the res. Cooled pretty quickly down to the set 68 degrees and holing steady. Will recheck in 2-3 days running like this.

I’ve had this setup for a few months as a chiller for an ice bath in our basement. It has performed great with our 100 gal stock tank with some but not perfect insulation. We’ve kept it in the 53-58 F range and it’s seems to be working very efficiently. It takes less than an hour to go from 58 to 53 which is where my wife and I switch off. Highly recommend for your DIY ice bath.
